History of
the Chester Pearls Foundation
Mission:
To promote the educational advancement of youth and to support charitable
programs that advance the betterment of the City of Chester and surrounding Delaware
County community.

The development of The Chester Pearls Foundation began in the Ways and Means
Committee of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Tau Delta Omega Chapter in years
2003-2004 when members were strategically planning to accept member legacy gifts
and purchase property. With these goals in mind, the 2003-2004 Ways and Means
Committee Chair Denise Poller assembled the First Board of Directors and enlisted the
help of chapter member Monique Hales to complete the Foundations formation
documents including Articles of Incorporation, Employer Identification Number, By-
Laws, and 501c3 Federal Tax-Exemption Application.
The formation of the Chester Pearls Foundation has expanded the philanthropic efforts
of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Tau Delta Omega Chapter by giving us the ability to
provide scholarships that support educational endeavors of college students, and to
expand our reach in providing excellent service projects in the local area.
The Articles of Incorporation were drafted and submitted for approval to the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and distinctly state that the Foundation’s mission is to
provide academic scholarship funding. The Chester Pearls Foundation has been
recognized since March 1, 2004, as a tax-exempt organization under Internal Revenue
Code 501c3, based on Public Charity status under Internal Revenue Code 509a2.
While the mission of the Chester Pearls Foundation is to provide academic funding for
college, as the needs of the community has changed, the Foundation Board has
pursued grant funding and other fundraising to address issues related to INSERT
GRANT FUNDING i.e. food insecurity etc. As the needs of the community have
expanded, so shall the mission of The Chester Pearls Foundation. We are committed to
providing impactful services in our community.
Additionally, we partner with other local community-based organizations which emulate
our goals and interests to address the ever-changing needs of the community. Because
of our collaborative work on academic advancement, food insecurity and health issues,
along with granting scholarships, hosting the annual Scholarship Ball for over 15 years,
and mentoring at-risk youth, the Chester Pearls Foundation continues to be a vital
resource for youth and families in the City of Chester and surrounding Delaware
County, Pennsylvania.
